Healthy cooking for busy lives

Troy University Dothan will host a demonstration workshop on “Cooking for Health Promotion: Basic Components of a Successful Busy Meals System” on Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The purpose of the seminar is to provide strategies and techniques of meal-planning and preparation for quick, easy dinners every night. Participants will learn to: plan and cook meals ahead of time; prepare a month’s worth of healthy suppers in one day; have home-made meals in the freezer that can be on the table within five minutes of defrosting; eat more meals a week as a family; and eliminate fat, cholesterol, sodium and keep flavor in their cooking. Participants will be able to taste some foods.

The workshop is open to interested individuals as well as health educators, dieticians, nurses, social workers and counselors, nursing home administrators and assisted living administrators.
Continuing education units will be awarded to all health professionals. For more information or to register, call at 983-0005.
